Waking Hours by By Lis Wiehl with Pete Nelson

Though I loved this book, it took me forever to read it as I received it as an e-book. This experience has taught me that I am a book snob and prefer to have the actual book in my hands. But moving on. As book one in the East Salem series, "Waking Hours" introduces us to the town of East Salem, where there are not only hidden secrets and conspiracies at work, but supernatural forces as well.

The story starts out with the body of a high school girl being found in a park; brutally murdered in an unusual fashion. This is where we meet our main character, forensic psychiatrist Dani Harris, who is determined to unravel the mystery.

She has a lot to deal with. All the suspects are teenagers who were partying with the girl, but mysteriously have no recollection of what happened. There is also the fact that she is having reoccurring nightmares filled with blood, water, and destruction. There is another annoying factor to deal with, the introduction of former NFL linebacker Tommy Gunderson who experiences weird happenings as well. He, of course, is the obligatory love interest for Dani. But they way they interact is done well, so it doesn't interfere at all really.

This supernatural thriller is full of suspense, interesting characters, a truly vile villain and enough twists and turns to make you dizzy. It is a good start to a series, and I will be reading the next in the series as it comes out.
